Michael Edward Jones

Michael Edward Jones, 80, of Niles, passed away peacefully at 9:36 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 2, 2018, at Autumn Hills Care Center in Niles.

He was born Jan. 23, 1938, in Warren, Ohio, the son of Benjamin H. and Nora Welsh Jones.

Mike was a lifelong area resident and was of the Catholic faith. He was a graduate of Niles McKinley High School and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps., with rank of Lance Corporal, where he was a weapons instructor. He worked for 30 years at Copperweld Steel Company in the shipping department before retiring.

He enjoyed baseball and golf. He golfed in four area golf leagues and traveled to North Carolina and Florida for golf outings with his friends. He enjoyed watching his great niece and nephew, Megan and Matt, play basketball.

Mike easily made friends and those friendships lasted forever.

Mike is survived by three sisters, Elaine (Andy) Starinchak of Winnetka, Ill.; Maureen Jones, Deborah Jones, both of Niles; sister-in-law, Charmaine Jones of Girard; 15 nieces and nephews; 13 great nieces and nephews; six great-great nieces and nephews; and his great friends, Ron Simone and godsons, Phillip Simone and Ron Simone Jr.; and Terry and Kathy Infante McGill.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald H. Jones, his twin; Benjamin F. Jones; Douglas M. Jones; three sisters, Kathleen Davis, Norma Jean DePizzo Mary Margaret Jones; and two nephews, Douglas Jones Jr. and Andrew J. Starinchak.

A service of Christian Burial will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018 at the Holloway-Williams Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 611 Robbins Ave., Niles. The Rev. John-Michael Lavelle will officiate.

Mike’s great nephew, Mark A. O’Connell will play the bagpipes in honor of his Uncle Mike.

Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery.
