Antonia Restaino Obituary

Girard-A gift to us all, Antonia Natalie Restaino was born at home on Christmas Day, December 25, 1936, at 519 Grant St., Niles, Ohio. Toni's life began amid the warmth and wonder of the season she would forever embody. A lifelong member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Toni lived her faith with grace and devotion. She attended Saint Stephen Elementary School and Niles McKinley High School and worked for 18 years at the GE Ohio Lamp Company before helping to operate the family's scrap business, Grant Street Scrap.

Toni, affectionately also referred to as Tonia, Mama T and Mama Toni, married a fellow Italian, Silvio Restaino in 1964. For the past 45 years, they made their home in Girard, Ohio, in the house Silvio lovingly built for their family.

To know Toni was to know warmth and remarkable resilience. She treasured time spent visiting with family and friends, dancing whenever the opportunity arose, and delighting in every moment with her beloved granddaughter Rina. She found joy in summer days at her cottage in Saybrook, Ohio, in savoring her favorite pastries, and in creating a home that reflected her meticulous care and pride. In her later years, she enjoyed being pampered with pedicures and could often be found smiling along with her favorite sitcom, Everybody Loves Raymond.

Though she lived a life rich in simple pleasures, Toni's greatest legacy is the love she gave so freely. Her fearless strength, generous spirit, and unwavering devotion to her family will remain woven into the hearts of all who knew her.

Toni is lovingly survived by her husband of 62 years, Silvio Restaino; her daughters, Lisa Restaino and Michelle Restaino; her granddaughter, Rina Restaino (Gayle); her nieces, Carla Colonello and Patricia Carfolo; and her nephews, Mark Carfolo and Joseph Vigorito (Jen). She is also survived by her great-niece, Olivia Carfolo (Evan); her great-nephews; Joseph Colonello (Colleen), Michael Carfolo and Joeseph Vigorito; as well as a great-great-niece Lucia Colonello.

She now joins those she loved and missed throughout the years: her devoted parents, Josephine (Babino) and Joseph Vigorito; her dear sister, Carmel Vigorito; and her beloved brother, Joseph Vigorito. Also, Tonia is preceded in death by her in-laws  Anna (Marinucci) and Pasquale Restaino, and Ida and Sam Carfolo.

Special recognition to many dear family friends and cousins, to include Thelma Livi, Rita Wolfe, Theresa Liguori Thompson, Kathy Infante McGill, Michael Giampetro, Cindy and Jim Adams, cousins from Ellwood City, Sandy Valvano Streit, all of the Vigorito cousins both in the U.S. and in Italy, all Squaw Creek neighbors, and Goddaughter Liana Driscoll (Jeff), who always remembered Tonia on her special Christmas birthday.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Toni's devoted caregivers and dear friends, Gina Maggio and her daughter Megan, and to the compassionate staff of the Austintown Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, whose kindness and care enriched her final days.
