Elizabeth (Betty) J. Deegan, 92, formerly of Springdale Pa., more recently of Shepherd of the Valley in Niles, died Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Laurie Ann Nursing Home in Newton Falls.
She was born December 6, 1925, in Harrison Township, Pa., the daughter of Arthur L. and Wilma C. Ross.
Betty graduated from Harbrack High School, Class of 1943. She was a lab technician at Alcoa Research Lab from 1943 to 1948. She also worked at the Allegheny Valley School District in food service from 1971 until her retirement in 1994.
Betty was an active member of St. Marks Lutheran Church in Springdale, participating in their Fidelis Circle, Friendship Class and singing in the choir. She sang in the Allegheny Ludlum Veteran Chorus and the Springdale Community Choir.
She cooked for Springdale Meals on Wheels, enjoyed traveling and going to the cottage at Conneaut Lake.
Betty is survived by two sons, David Deegan of Hawaii, Bill (Lori) Deegan of Missouri, two daughters, Nancy (Bob) Mellinger of Warren, Tracey (Jim) Lotz of Maryland, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Deegan, whom she married on June 5, 1948 and who died May 19, 1988, her parents and her brother, Charles Ross.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 30, at St. Marks Church, 600 Pittsburgh Street, Springdale, Pa at 11:00 AM.
Arrangements are being handled by the Holloway-Williams Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 611 Robbins Ave., Niles, Ohio.
Interment will be in Lakewood Memorial Cemetery, Cheswick, Pa.
