Chief Joseph P. Consiglio, 71, died Sunday, January 18, 2015, at the Cleveland Clinic, with his loving family by his side.
Joe was born January 17, 1944, in Warren, Ohio, the son of Paul D. and Louise M. Patrone Consiglio.
He was the graduate of the police academy and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked at RMI in Niles and then at his father’s trucking company, Consiglio Company Trucking.
Consiglio served 30 years with the Weathersfield Police Department - the past 13 as chief. He started his career in 1974 with the Trumbull County Sheriff's Office, first as a deputy then later a detective, through 1979.
He joined Weathersfield in 1984 as a reserve officer before being made full time that same year. He became a detective in 1985, was promoted to captain in 1991 and was named chief in 2002, a rank he held until the time of his death.
He enjoyed golfing and playing cards. He was past president of the Chiefs of Police Association and was a member of the FOP.
He is survived by his wife, the former Nancy L. Ryder, who he married on December 27, 1997; a son, Joseph P. (Alyse) Consiglio II of Girard; daughters Jeanine M. (Dean) Bofenkamp of Vienna; Jolene M. (Patrick) Calderone of Warren; and Janelle T. Consiglio of Columbus.; a brother Victor Nicholas (Susanne) Consiglio of St. Clair Shores, Mich. and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at 1p.m. at the Holloway-Williams Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 611 Robbins Ave., Niles, with calling hours from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Consiglio grandchildren’s education fund.
