Joyce Margaret Wilson, 81, longtime Niles resident, died peacefully Friday evening, July 3, 2015, at Shepherd of the Valley Howland.
Joyce was born Oct. 7, 1933, in Ellesmere Port, England, to George Arthur Britton and Hilda Eliza Pritchard Britton, both deceased.
Joyce married Roy George Wilson of Sharon, Pa., on Jan. 23, 1954, in Ellesmere Port during Roy's time in the U.S. Army, and immigrated with him to the United States upon his discharge in March 1954. They eventually relocated to Niles in 1965. Roy was a longtime employee at RMI and passed away suddenly in 1988.
Joyce formerly had been employed by Eastgate Pharmacy in Warren, by Drs. Elston and Lazor of Warren, and by Warren General Hospital. She was an accomplished cook, baker, seamstress, knitter and flower gardener, and was not intimidated by hard work nor by lack of training in tackling tasks as varied as re-upholstery or plumbing or home remodeling. She will be remembered for her gentle nature, humility, and compassion for the less fortunate among us including creatures great and small.
Joyce is survived by children David Keith (Debra) Wilson of Seymour, Ind., Paul Brian Wilson of Tallmadge and Karen Lynn (Lee) Palmer of Burghill; by grandchildren Gabriel Jacob (Sarah) Wilson of Seymour, Ind., Jesse Michael Roy Wilson of Brownsburg, Ind., and Allyson Kaitlin Palmer of Rochester, Minn.; and by great-granddaughters Viviana Grace Wilson and Genevieve Claire Wilson of Seymour, Ind.
She was preceded in death by her brother James Stewart Britton, who had immigrated to Caledon, Ontario, Canada.
The family would like to thank the staff of Vista Center at the Ridge, Shepherd of the Valley Howland, and MVI Hospice for their caring services.
