She was born January 16, 1925, in Warren, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Elmer and Elvira Lanigan Fisher.
With the passing of her mother at a young age, she was raised by her stepmother, Dorothy Fisher. She has two brothers, Dick (Barbara) Fisher of Leesburg, Fla., Don Fisher of Mineral Ridge and one sister, Norma Hofius of Dublin, Ohio.
Marilyn graduated from Wittenburg University in 1945, with a degree in elementary education. While attending Wittenburg, she met her first love of her life, Capt. Kenneth Lynn Otstot who was in the 13th Army Air Force and a bomber pilot in the South Pacific during WWII. They married June 18, 1945 in Niles, Ohio.
She was a devoted and loving mother to Kenneth (Carol) Otstot of Seabrook Island, S.C., Eric (Emma) Otstot of Marietta and Mark Otstot of Augusta, Ga. She cherished her grandchildren, Kenneth (Angela) Otstot Jr., Cade Otstot, Ben (Cheyenne) Otstot, Joshua Otstot, Jacob Otstot, Luke Otstot and Mark Otstot, Jr.; and great-grandchildren, Fisher and Enzo Otstot.
She taught school K-4 in Michigan and later in Mineral Ridge, Ohio after the death of her first husband in 1973, until her retirement in 1983. On February 26, 1983, she married Dr. William Elston, her second love, in Niles, Ohio. They enjoyed extensive traveling adventures all over the world including Jerusalem, Germany and Ireland until his death in 2006. Dr. Elston brought to the marriage his children, William Elston, Jr, Robin West, Jeffrey Elston and David Elston; and six grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and two husbands, she was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Stephanie Otstot in 2015; and one grandson, Nicholas Otstot in 1996.
She was a devout Christian and volunteered in a variety of areas in the church, including support and assistance with single mothers while living in Yalaha, Fla.
She enjoyed life to its fullest and blessed all those in her presence. She loved and was loved by many including her friends at Glenwood. The family would like to thank Amedysis Home Health and Hospice and The Pines at Glenwood staff in helping Marilyn with her end of life journey.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2016, at Holloway-Williams Funeral Home, 611 Robbins Ave., Niles, Ohio with Pastor Mark Otstot, her son, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the employee appreciation fund, in care of Glenwood Retirement Community, 200 Timberline Drive, Marietta, OH 45750.
