DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Roberta Marie Squiric, 80, formerly of Niles, passed away Monday, Sept. 5, 2016, at Halifax Medical Center.
She was born March 1, 1936, in Warren, the daughter of James Orlan and Ellen McGowan Sloan. Roberta was the eldest of six children.
Roberta married the late Robert J. Squiric on June 26, 1954, in Niles, where they shared 56 years together and raised their six children.
When her youngest child went to first grade, Roberta began college at Youngstown State University, graduating with an elementary school teaching degree and then went on to get her MBA. She taught in the Niles City Schools for 27 years.
Roberta was a past president of the Niles Catholic Women's Club, a Girl Scout leader and District Cookie Chairwoman. She was an avid golfer, belonging to several leagues in Ohio, as well as in Florida.
Roberta was a member of St. Stephen Church in Niles, a life member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association and was a life member of Trumbull County Teachers. In Daytona Beach, she was a member of the Newcomers Club and Daytona Diva's Red Hats. In both Niles and Florida, she was a member of the Eagles. She was also a member of the Moose in Hudson, Fla.
She is survived by her two sons, Robert J. (Karen) Squiric Jr. of Hickory, N.C. and Dennis E. (Linda) Squiric of Columbus; three daughters, Deborah Squiric Stralko of Daytona Beach, Fla., Pamela J. Mahaffey (Mark) Pospisil of Circleville and Candis E. (Jeff) Arlow of Port Orange, Fla.; one brother, John Sloan of Sheffield; three sisters, Gail (Louie) George of Marrieta, Ga., Elaine Sloan of Warren and Mary Grace Kraft, also of Warren; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Robert J. Squiric; a son, James Sloan Squiric; and a brother, James Sloan.
A Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016, at St. Stephen Church in Niles. Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday Sept. 16, 2016, at the Holloway-Williams Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 611 Robbins Ave., Niles. Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that material contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, in Roberta's name, or a charity of your choice.
