Rocco Carmen Mitolo

Rocky, as he was known to everyone, was born July 17, 1933, in Youngstown, the son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Rizzi Mitolo.

A lifelong area resident, Rocky will be remembered for his dedication to his family.

He was a 1951 graduate of Wilson High School and attended Miami University of Ohio and was a member of the football team.

Rocky was a 40-year member of the Teamsters, retiring in 1996 as vice president of Teamster Local 377. He was co-owner of M&C Leasing Co., and he and his wife, Marian, founded Mitolo Flower Shoppe in 1984.

Rocky was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles, was an active member of John F. Kennedy Goal Liners and a member of New Middletown Sportsman Club. He enjoyed hunting. His true passion was spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was a veteran in the U.S. Army, and served in Germany.

Rocky will be deeply missed by his wife, Marian Coates Mitolo of 62 years, whom he married July 4, 1953; three sons, Joseph (Suzanne) Mitolo of Dayton, James Mitolo of Niles and Rocky Jr. (Cindy) of Niles; three daughters, Elizabeth (Matthew) Gruber of Belle Vernon, Pa., Isabelle Mitolo of Niles and Marian (John) Mitolo-Diana of Girard; 17 grandchildren, Maria (Nathan) Wollenburg, Emily (Julian) Grasso, Jessica Mitolo, Alyssa Mitolo, Rocco J. Mitolo, James Mitolo, Nicole (John) Rossi, Rocco Mitolo III, Megan Mitolo, Mindy (Tom) Barracato, Theresa (Brandon) Gillie, Matthew Gruber, Nicholas Gruber, Joseph Gruber, John Michael Diana, Isabella Diana and Mariana Diana; five great-grandsons, Michael, Max, Max, Joseph and Alexander; and many loving nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Monsignor Nicholas Mitolo and James Mitolo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles, with the Rev. John-Michael Lavelle officiating. The family will receive family and friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
